Laverne Cox fashioned a retro 1990s look in an archival Thierry Mugler ensemble and slingback pointed-toe pumps for the New York special screening of “I Am: Celine Dion” at Alice Tully Hall on Monday night.

Crafted in an elegant minimalistic style, the shoes featured a precisely-cut angular pointed-toe box on the upper as its standout feature and a slingback construction that included a black strap that wrapped around her ankle. Teaming her pumps with a pair of sheer tights, the shoes were completed by a sharp heel estimated to be between 4-to-5 inches, showcasing the actress’ love for wearing stilettos and pumps with a bit of extra height to them.
As for the rest of her outfit, Cox wore a vintage bolero and skirt from Thierry Mugler’s fall 1995 couture collection. She accessorized her look with a handbag from the brand’s fall 1992 couture collection, alongside a vintage choker from Dior. She finished the style with her signature blonde locks left in a loose middle part, and glamorous makeup look consisting of shimmery gold eyeshadow and pink lipstick.

Pointed-toe pumps are a preferred shoe choice for Cox’s red carpets and formal events. For the 2023 Academy Awards red carpet where she hosted the “E! Live From the Red Carpet” pre-show, she showcased a pair of classic pointy-toe black pumps worn alongside a custom look courtesy of Vera Wang. In September 2022, Cox was spotted at the 74th Primetime Emmys in Los Angeles wearing black pointed-toe stiletto style pumps that featured a slim heel that ranged between 3-to-4 inches.
When not in pumps, you can spot the actress in elevated boot styles such as the glossy heeled pair she opted for while attending the “Thierry Mugler: Couturissime” exhibit in New York that same year. Those shoes featured black patent latex uppers and a stiletto heel totaling at least 4 inches in height.
