More than 70 million people were under heat alerts from the Midwest to New England. The heat index reached 100 degrees in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and other cities. There was heavy rain and the threat of flooding in parts of the South, and more than 20 wildfires in the West. NBC News' Maggie Vespa reports.
