Cuba announce star studded roster for WBSC Americas Baseball5 World Cup Qualifier
World No. 3 Cuba announced their WBSC Americas Baseball5 World Cup roster, which includes six players who helped Cuba win the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup in 2022 and two who contributed to the first-ever WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup title.
World Champion coaches Pablo Terry Alvarez and Liorvis Savón Matos selected a star-studded roster.
World Champion Chakira Liana Aspiazù leads the group of female players which includes Claudia Lores, Lielis Arcia and Youth Baseball5 MVP Haila Gonzalez.
Male players include Baseball5 World Cup MVP Briandy Molina, Orlando El Escudero Acrobatico Amador, Cristian Basabe and Caribbean Cup best defensive player Yoel Blanco.
The WBSC Americas Baseball5 World Cup Qualifier is scheduled from June 26 to 30 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. So far, five teams have confirmed participation: World No. 3 Cuba, No. 8 Mexico, the hosts, No. 15 Venezuela, and unranked Puerto Rico.
The top three finishers will qualify for the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup 2024, scheduled for October 7 to 12 at the Harbourfront Event Space in Hong Kong, China.
Eight teams have qualified so far:
Africa (2) No. 4 Tunisia, No. 7 South Africa
Asia (3) No. 6 Japan, No. 2 Chinese Taipei and No. 15 China
Europe (2) No. 2 France, No. 10 Lithuania
Hosts (1) No. 17 Hong Kong
The winner of the WBSC Oceania Qualifer will complete the set of participants.
