06/19/2024: Heat & Humidity Here in Full Force
The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologists Matt Mackie and Kevin Appleby
Once again temperatures will soar well into the 90s Wednesday, coinciding with high levels of humidity. High pressure to our east continues to pump in this unseasonably hot air mass. The ridge of high pressure will flatten going into the weekend, supporting slightly cooler and wetter conditions, but the high humidity will stick around for a while.
As we've been saying leading up to this big-time heat, actual air temperatures only tell half the story. With dew points close to 70 degrees, your body will think the temperatures are in the triple digits during the afternoon.
The high humidity hinders the body's ability to sweat, so it is extremely important to stay hydrated and avoid long-term strenuous outdoor physical activity over the next few days!
Just like Tuesday, we expect an isolated thunderstorm or two to fire up, but the storm coverage will be few and far between. Don't count on a downpour to cool you down! A better opportunity for t-storms arrives Thursday, with even greater chances for storms and cooler conditions arriving for the end of the work week.
Tonight, once again, temperatures will struggle to drop below the low to mid 70s regionwide. Just like this morning, Thursday morning will be muggy from the get-go.
Temperatures may take a small step back for Thursday with the anticipated scattered thunderstorms. Heat indices will still approach 100, and a Heat Advisory remains in effect across the News10 viewing area into Thursday evening.
Temperatures start to decrease Friday and Saturday as the storm chances increase. Humidity, however, will not budge all weekend long, and will still be very noticeable.
It's not until next Tuesday where the humidity will finally relent, but air temperatures will still be in the mid 80s. Summer officially starts tomorrow, and Mother Nature is certainly starting things off appropriately!
Please be safe in this heat and humidity! We've been through this before, but that doesn't mean we should take it lightly!
