Around 0900-0915 when I took the pictures at Manly and then Dee Why, wind was coming from the WNW at 9-11 kts while out at sea the buoy offshore from Botany Bay was detecting 2 metres of 11 second swell energy from the SE. There were still occasional head-high sets at the best exposures, but away from there, the waves were more typically in the waist to chest-high range on sets – which were few and far between. Tide hit a moderate 1.33 m high at 0650 and at present writing is dropping to the0.62 m low at 1225.
Outlook is for the swell to fade a bit more as both the size at sea and the average periods decrease. The models show weather turning showery again for the weekend and the wind going south. The swell should be close to south and coming up again into the 2-ish metre range, but surf options will be limited thanks to the wind.
Might be a plan to hit it today if possible.

A deep, stationary low pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea is gradually weakening, with winds and swell along the New South Wales coast easing in response. A cold front and associated trough approaching from the west will bring a fresh west to southwesterly airstream during Friday, reinforced during Saturday as another trough moves along the coast. Following this, a new high pressure system is forecast to strengthen over southeast Australia during the weekend before moving to the Tasman Sea early in the new week.
