90 Plus: Aline Oubre
(KLFY)-- Aline Oubre, 91, of Loreauville deals with age in the reverse; she seems to get better as she gets older.
"I'm going to work as long as I can," Oubre said.
Being 90 plus, may not be half bad.
"Never taken medicine. I take no medicine I guess. I don't know. I really don't know," Oubre said.
Oubre works as a wedding coordinator for Maison de Tours in St. Martinville. She's been ushering in I-do's for the past 12 years. Oubre was retired 10 years before her now employer popped the question.
"She asked me to come to work for her," Oubre said. "I said that lady must be crazy. I'm 81 years old."
Oubre and her husband had four children together; he passed away 10 years ago at the age of 81.
"I mean it was great we got married right out of high school" Oubre said.
While in high school, Oubre lost both her parents, first, her mother and then her father died six months later.
"Taught me to be very independent and get the best from all those sad experiences," Oubre said. "It taught me to be independent."
Aline is one of eight children all raised in St Martinville. Her father used to own a bar.
"Zie Thomas's Bar on here Main Street in St. Martinville," Oubre said.
In light of the ups and downs, Oubre describes her life as wonderful; she still has a living sister who is 97 years old.
"My sister and I are the only two who lived over 90," Oubre said.
Now, it is all fun and family. She has so many grandchildren that she set up camp for their summer visit to grandmom's. It was called "Granny Camp."
"We would paint T-shirts. We took cigar boxes and covered them with shells," Oubre said.
Her grandkids took to it hook, line and sinker; lock, stock and barrel; like a fish takes to.
"Some of the other kids would beg their moms and their parents to go to 'Granny Camp' and they would have to explain to them it's not really a camp," Oubre said.
Oubre shared some advice.
"You're here today, you never know what tomorrow brings," Oubre said.
