All 30 ‘The Crown’ Emmy submissions: Final season contenders include Imelda Staunton, Elizabeth Debicki …
“The Crown” concluded its six-season run in December after charting the life and career of Queen Elizabeth II over several decades. Now the series enters the 2024 Emmy race with 30 total submissions across the ballots that the television academy made publicly available. That excludes VFX races where “a panel comprised of voting members from the Special Visual Effects Peer Group will prescreen all submissions to determine the nominations,” as per the academy’s new rules. Scroll down to see all of “The Crown’s” entries for consideration.
The Netflix series comes into these awards already a winner. In 2021 it claimed Best Drama Series for its fourth season, making it the first Netflix series ever to win that prize. That year it also won five out of the six drama acting awards, plus writing and directing honors. It lost a step in season five, however, picking up just six noms overall. But it has a good chance of rebounding for its swansong. In addition to giving the television academy the chance to bid a fond farewell to the series, the show might also benefit from the absence of some 2023 Emmy juggernauts like “Succession,” “The White Lotus” and “The Last of Us,” which leaves a number of races wide open.
One of the show’s strongest hopes for a win is Elizabeth Debicki for her performance as the tragic Princess Diana. She was the show’s lone acting nominee the last time around, and this year she won Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild Awards for her work in the final season. The show is also betting big on its series finale episode, “Sleep, Dearie Sleep,” which is on the ballot nine times including in writing and directing categories, plus cinematography, costumes and more. How many submissions will materialize into nominations? And how many of those will turn into wins?
