Baseball America has released their July update to their Top-100 list, marking their midseason referendum on the prospect landscape for MLB. They have placed eight (8) Seattle Mariners prospects on their Top-100. One M’s prospect was added fresh to the list, while another two had among the highest rise and drop respectively within the list. The included individuals were as follows:
No. 13 SS Colt Emerson No. 29 OF Lazaro Montes No. 41 SS/2B Cole Young No. 61 OF Jonny Farmelo No. 72 C Harry Ford No. 79 1B Tyler Locklear No. 80 RHP Logan Evans No. 95 SS Felnin Celesten
Emerson has exploded onto the scene thanks to significant upticks in his offensive profile, namely hitting the ball harder and on a line, with minimal seeming consequence to his contact ability, while Montes has rampaged like a kaiju through the Low-A California League and is now hitting his stride in High-A Everett. Farmelo was also recognized for his breakout play, and earned a spot despite his ACL injury that will sideline him until 2025. Young, Ford, and Locklear continue performing at a high level at age-appropriate levels or levels they are young for, though Ford dropped somewhat due to knocks on his power production thus far. While I do expect poor power numbers from every RHH prospect in Double-A Arkansas, it is a fair point that Ford’s pop can ebb and flow. Evans continues to look sharp, now as a bullpen arm, while Celesten enters the list due to looking sharp in the Arizona Complex League. Getting honorable mentions were INF Michael Arroyo (now in High-A Everett with Montes) and OF Aidan Smith (Low-A Modesto).
