The Mariners aim to bounce back after a disappointing series opener

After last night’s grotesquerie, the Mariners will send another one of their young pitchers to the mound tonight in Bryce Miller, facing crafty veteran and ex-Mariner Nester Cortes. Cortes and the Yankees will be looking to clinch a postseason berth, which they would do with a win tonight.

Victor Robles is having trouble gripping a bat, per manager Dan Wilson. He’s out of the lineup today and could be considered day-to-day.

Luke Raley isn’t in the starting lineup against lefty Nestor Cortes, but it will be interesting to see if he’s available off the bench. Raley was in some pain after he got drilled in the side in a pregame live BP by lefty C.J. Widger of the Everett AquaSox as a few of the young pitchers were at the park today to get in some live BP against pro hitters.

  • 2023: Mariners blank the A’s 5-0, setting a franchise record with their 16th shutout victory of the season.
