Meet pacer who rocked Rohit Sharma’s side on Day 1, he is only 3rd Bangladesh player to achieve THIS feat…
Bangladesh have made a dream start after winning the toss and electing to bowl first in the 1st Test vs India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium or Chepauk in Chennai on Thursday (September 19). India were reduced to 36 for 3 in the first 11 overs in the first hours with big guns Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back in the pavilion for 6 runs each.
All three of those wickets has gone to one Bangladesh bowler – Hasan Mahmud, who carried on his golden form from the two-match Test series against Pakistan earlier this month. Mahmud had become only the third Bangladesh pacer ever – after Ebadot Hossain and Khaled Ahmed – to claim five wickets in an innings in a Test match which he achieved in the 2nd Test vs Pakistan in Rawalpindi to start in Bangladesh’s historic series win.
Hasan Mahmud is also known as ‘Laxmipur Express’ as he hails from Laxmipur district in Chattogram and started the Indian rout, getting skipper Rohit Sharma caught behind for 6. Shubman Gill was next, tickling Hasan Mahmud down the legside to be caught by wicketkeeper Litton Das for a duck and then Virat Kohli edged the Bangladesh pacer to the slips to be dismissed for 6 as well.

“He has a unique action that confuses batsmen. Besides, he has variations that he smartly employs, apart from swing and pace” former national coach Sarwar Imran said about Hasan Mahmud.
Former captain Shakib Al Hasan added: “Though he is young he has got a very good brain and has a good game sense, he can read the game well.”
Hasan Mahmud had made a dramatic entry into Bangladesh cricket season, called into the nets to bowl to the Bangladesh batters, the lanky pacer troubled veterans Shakib al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahman and Litton Das.
Even India’s Harsha Bhogle and Sanjay Manjrekar were impressed by Hasan’s bowling on Day 1. “Very impressive from Hasan Mahmud. Perfect bowler for these conditions. Just the right pace and the ability to move it both ways. Interesting to see how long this spice lasts,” Bhogle tweeted.
While Manjrekar said, “More I watch bowling, more I realise that it’s the length not so much the line that a bowler bowls. All 3 wickets to Hasan Mahmud to fuller length balls. Taskin bowled a good line. Hasan bowled a better length.”
