IPL 2025 mega auction to head overseas again, three cities shortlisted are…
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is expected to be one of the most anticipated events this season. The auction in which most of the 10 IPL franchises will have to reboot before the season 18 of the league is all set to head overseas again this year.
According to a report in Cricbuzz website, the IPL 2024 mega auction is set to head overseas again and possibly to the Middle East countries. One of the additions to the usual suspects could be current home of football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo – Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh.
The IPL 2024 mini-auction took place in Dubai but this time around Abu Dhabi and Doha are in the fray as alternate venues in the Middle East apart from big-spending Riyadh. “The venue will likely be in the Middle East. Last year’s auction took place in Dubai, and it wouldn’t be surprising if it were held in another Gulf city, Doha or Abu Dhabi for instance. Saudi Arabia, which has been making heavy investments in sports of late, including cricket, is also reportedly interested in hosting the auction. There is no clarity on the venue at this stage,” the Cricbuzz report read.
The report also added that the auction could take place in the month of November with the retention deadline set to be November 15. “The retention rules may be announced this month end which means the teams will have two months to do the plan for the auction. The deadline for the teams to announce their retentions is expected to be around November 15,” the report added.
