Pundit says Nottingham Forest have two players better than Spurs star, and for half the price
Ian Wright believes that Nottingham Forest have done really well to get Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi for relatively low fees, insisting that both wingers are better than Brennan Johnson.
Brennan Johnson cost Spurs a huge fee
Johnson is yet to justify the £47.5m fee that Tottenham spent on him a little over a year ago, with the winger having more than his fair share of challenges since making the move to North London.
The 23-year-old struggled for consistency in his first season at Spurs while his second season at the club has not got off to a bright start, with the winger coming in for plenty of heavy criticism for his displays.
In fact, he has even decided to deactivate his Instagram account in light of the abuse coming his way after the North London Derby.
Ange Postecoglou has leapt to Johnson’s defence, blasting those who sent abuse at the winger and revealing that the winger is working as hard as he can to turn his form around (Football.London).
The Tottenham head coach confidently asserted that the Wales international will prove a success with the Lilywhites.
Ian Wright criticises Johnson a day before he scores
However, Wright believes that Forest did exceptionally well to get such a high fee for Johnson and suggested that the Midlands club have managed to upgrade on their former player.
The pundit said on the Kelly and Wrighty Show: “If you look at the business of selling Brennan Johnson to Tottenham for £50m and then getting those two (Elanga and Hudson-Odoi) for £21m, two players who, if I’m going to be honest, and this is not being disrespectful to Brennan, they are both better than him in what they can produce now.”
Johnson offered up the perfect response to this criticism last night when he scored Tottenham’s winning goal in a last-gasp win over Coventry City.
Spurs Web Opinion
One can certainly understand Wright’s point as at the moment, Johnson is not offering a lot to Tottenham, with the 23-year-old clearly lacking confidence. However, the winger is still very young and I would not bet against him turning his fortunes around before the end of the season.
