Tottenham had concerns about James Maddison this summer at Hotspur Way
The Daily Mail reveal that there were concerns at Tottenham this summer about how James Maddison would perform after the heartbreak of being left out of the England squad for the Euros this summer.
James Maddison was gutted by England snub
Maddison was public about the fact that he was devastated to be left out of the squad, having been a key fixture throughout the qualifying stage.
The 27-year-old may have perhaps felt while watching England at the Euros that he could have added a lot to the squad, given the creativity he brings, something that the Three Lions were lacking in the tournament.
It sounds like some at Tottenham would have preferred for Maddison to be selected too.
Spurs were concerned by how Maddison would react
According to The Mail, many at Hotspur Way were concerned about how the 27-year-old would react to the omission.
However, it is said that they have been pleased with the determination shown by the attacking midfielder, who is keen to use the disappointment as fuel.
The publication adds that this sort of attitude is what Ange Postecoglou wants from his players, with the Tottenham head coach and his staff belief that Maddison is inching towards his best form.
Spurs Web Opinion
Maddison is mentally strong and a fierce competitor. There are no questions about that.
Ange made him the vice-captain because he was quick to see those qualities in the midfielder, which is why the Australian would have not had many concerns about how the player would react to the disappointment.
