Tottenham send scouts to Champions League clash – but they were not alone
Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be one of six Premier League clubs who sent scouts to watch Club Brugge face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, raising speculation as to who Spurs’ are keeping an eye on.
Tottenham have shown an interest in both team’s players
Spurs could have been tracking a whole host of players on Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Tottenham linked to players at both Club Brugge and Borussia Dortmund of late.
Club Brugge star winger, Skov Olsen, was a player that Tottenham and Arsenal were believed to be taking a look at with Voetbalkrant reporting in October of last year that Spurs had been tracking the Dane for a long time.
Borussia Dortmund’s Yan Couto was also a player Spurs were interested in recently, with Fichajes reporting that the Lilywhites suggested proposals of around €35 million.
Spurs are one of many Premier League clubs to attend the game
As per, Het Niewusblad, Tottenham were alongside a vast number of top clubs that sent their scouts to watch Wednesday’s Champions League clash between Club Brugge and Borussia Dortmund.
Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Manchester United and Manchester City were the clubs from England named as attendees with around thirty top European sides in total expected to be at the game.
Aston Villa are likely to have a keen eye on Club Brugge, who they face in the reformed Champions League group stage in November.
Tottenham’s inclusion, however, is more intriguing with the trip likely to be to scout a player with Spurs not in the Champions League this season.
Spurs Web opinion
Whilst the prospect of signing a new winger or new right-back is very tantalizing for Tottenham fans, I would suggest such scouting trips are more than normal for clubs of Spurs’ size with top Premier League clubs desperate to not allow a top talent to fly under the radar.
It is likely that perhaps Olsen or Couto are players that Spurs’ scouts may be keeping an eye on, although it’s likely for the future, especially in Couto’s case with Tottenham currently having apt cover at right-back/
