Redknapp highlights the biggest problem for Solanke at Spurs – and it’s not his fault
Ex-Tottenham midfielder, Jamie Redknapp, suggests that Dominic Solanke’s start to life at Spurs has been negatively impacted by the team’s lack of creativity.
Solanke is yet to score for Spurs
Tottenham striker, Dominic Solanke, has had a turbulent start to life in North London since arriving at the club in a £65 million deal in the summer with injury ruling him out of two opening games. (The Athletic)
Goals were no issue for Solanke to come by last season. The Englishman found the back of the net nineteen times in the Premier League for Bournemouth last campaign although the striker is yet to get off the mark in Lilywhite. (TransferMarkt)
Solanke featured in Spurs’ poor victory over Coventry in the Carabao Cup but found chances hard to come by before being substituted in the 62nd minute.
Jamie Redknapp says Spurs need to improve their service
Although Solanke to yet to open his scoring account at Tottenham, former Spurs midfielder, Jamie Redknapp believes the striker is being let down by the level of service given to him.
Redknapp said (Sky Sports 18/09/24): “With Bissouma being injured, what is his best midfield? How will he find some creativity in this team for Dominic Solanke? At the moment there has been none at all.
“He had no supply whatsoever in the period he was on with Brennan Johnson and Werner. Maddison is that player who can unlock a door, he’s been okay so far this season, but it hasn’t really clicked for them.
“It’s been so poor in wide areas. Solanke’s had nothing, it’s hard for him to get any supply line. For Spurs, it’s been a really tough watch. They’ve been really disappointing.”
Spurs Web opinion
While Solanke hasn’t had the dream start to life at Spurs, it’s not as though his performances have been completely unconvincing. The former Bournemouth man was unlucky to not score against Leicester and has since failed to get a good level of service.
It was a surprise to see Postecoglou substitute Solanke against Coventry as I felt the striker was starting to come into the game and flashing signs of his true ability although Ange may well have been resting him for Brentford on Saturday.
