Coventry manager says Spurs are the best team in Europe at one key aspect
Coventry City boss, Mark Robins, has shared his frustrations at his side’s narrow loss to Tottenham although he believes Postecoglou’s side are one of the best teams in Europe on and off the ball.
Tottenham snuck past Coventry in the Carabao Cup
Despite being firm favourites and dominating the ball for the majority of the game against Coventry City, Spurs were lucky to beat the Sky Blues who had the better chances in the game.
Coventry, who currently sit 14th in the Championship, took the lead through Brandon Thomas-Asante in the 63rd minute before a quick double from Spurs late on in the game dumped Coventry out of the Carabao Cup.
Johnson’s 92nd-minute winner spared Tottenham’s blushes after Ange Postecoglou’s second-string team failed to impose themselves on the tie, often looking as though they were the underdog team in the tie.
Mark Robins claims Spurs are the best pressing team in Europe
Despite his side frustratingly throwing away a lead late on to Tottenham, Coventry manager, Mark Robins, has been full of praise for Postecoglou’s side.
He stated after the final whistle (Coventry City on YouTube): “They are the best pressing team in Europe at the moment, also, they have more possession than any other team in Europe too.
“Those are the stats of the team we played against tonight. Even though there were some changes, they all train the same way, and they are all top players.”
As for his side letting an opportunity to beat Spurs slip through their hands, Mark Robins admitted (Coventry Telegraph): “I thought we were good. I’m going to try not to swear… I thought we were really good out of possession and got most things right.
“From our perspective, yes, it’s disappointing that we didn’t see the job out and get over the line but there are lots and lots of positives from that tonight. And if you’re Tottenham Hotspur you are probably relieved to go through at our expense.”
Spurs Web opinion
Mark Robins is in no way being biased toward his side when he says that Tottenham could perhaps feel relieved to have booked their spot in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup as Spurs were nowhere near the pace and determination required to win the game for 80 minutes of the tie.
As Robins said, Spurs are one of the better teams statistically for pressing and possession but at the moment Tottenham are struggling to effectively use possession.
That was the case again against Coventry and Spurs must sort the issue out before another performance like the one on Wednesday night happens again.
