Mikey Moore receives a boost to Spurs first-team chances – Journalist reveals
Wilson Odobert and Timo Werner were seen limping off against Coventry with the possible absences of both forwards allowing 17-year-old Mikey Moore to step into the spotlight.
Moore is tipped to be Tottenham’s next academy hero
17-year-old academy star, Mikey Moore, started to catch the eye of Spurs fans last season when he recorded an unbelievable record of 14 goals in 12 games for Tottenham’s U18’s. (TransferMarkt)
The teenager didn’t take long to get thrown into Ange Postecoglou’s senior squad with the young forward featuring a handful of times off the bench for Spurs last season. He was also handed a three-year professional deal mere months later. (The Athletic)
Postecoglou himself has admitted that Moore has a very bright future, stating in pre-season: “All we can do is keep allowing him to develop. We have to remember that last year he had some injuries, and he is only 16, but yes – super exciting.” (Football.London)
Injuries could allow Moore a chance in the coming weeks
Alasdair Gold of Football.London has suggested that potential injuries to Wilson Odobert and Timo Werner could leave Spurs light on the wings, opening the opportunity for Mikey Moore to experience more first-team football than was perhaps expected.
Postecoglou admitted after Spurs’ close victory over Coventry City that both Werner and Odobert’s injuries appeared to be muscular with Odobert’s in particular looking like ‘a significant one’. (Tottenham Hotspur)
Gold has therefore suggested that Moore could be in line for some minutes in Spurs’ upcoming Europa League ties with Postecoglou likely to refrain from overplaying Heung-Min Son and Brennan Johnson.
Spurs Web opinion
Although injuries to two wide players are far from ideal, especially as it leaves Tottenham with minimal depth in the position now, the fact it may open a chance up for Mikey Moore can be considered an exciting prospect.
Moore displayed in pre-season that he can handle senior football with a home tie against Qarabag in particular the ideal platform for the 17-year-old to make his mark.
