City to consider $500,000 in extra funding for Hotel Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) - City Manager Dr. Robert Perez is asking for more cash as costs mount for Hotel Topeka.

The City of Topeka released its agenda for its upcoming 6 p.m. session on Tuesday, Oct. 1. One of the action items listed includes a resolution asking for additional funding for Hotel Topeka.

Perez introduced the request, asking for $500,000 to go towards "operations and maintenance of Hotel Topeka." Approval of this request requires at least six votes from the Topeka City Council.

The City of Topeka approved of a similar measure in February 2024 where $500,000 was singled out for the continued operation and maintenance of the hotel. The city is currently looking for a brokerage firm to help with the sale of the hotel.

City officials approved of buying the hotel in October 2023 with the price tag set at $7.6 million. Ownership of the hotel was retained by the Topeka Development Corporation.
