Woman dies after SUV strikes porch in Fishkill

FISHKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- State police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Fishkill on September 13. The crash took place around 4:25 p.m. on Superior Court near Esopus Way.

According to state police, the initial investigation determined that the driver of a Lexus SUV failed to put her vehicle into reverse while backing into a parking spot on Superior Court. This reportedly resulted in the car accelerating forward over a concrete curb, causing the SUV to collide with a porch in the neighboring yard, striking a woman sitting on the porch.

The victim, identified as 66-year-old Melinda Sohval, was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where she was later declared dead. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
