India vs Bangladesh 2024 1st Test: Ravichandran Ashwin creates HISTORY with record century, first cricketer ever to achieve THIS…
Team India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin created a new record on Day 1 of the 1st Test against Bangladesh in front of his home crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday (September 19). Ashwin notched up his 20th score of 50 or more runs in Test cricket, en route to scoring his 6th Test hundred in his 101st match, reaching the landmark in 108 deliveries only.
In addition to this, Ashwin also has 36 hauls of five or more wickets in Test cricket with the ball. Ashwin has become the first and only cricketer in the history of the game with 20-plus fifty-plus scores as well as 30-plus five-wicket hauls in the history of Test cricket.
Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja resurrected the Indian innings which was faltering at 144 for 6 after being sent into bat by Bangladesh. The duo put on more than 150-run partnership for the 7th wicket with Ashwin playing a blazing knock at home.

The duo have the 2nd highest tally of wickets as a pair of spinners. Ashwin and Jadeja have claimed 542 wickets together in 53 Tests while Muttiah Muralitharan and Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka lead the way with 667 wickets in 90 Tests.
Ashwin over the course of his innings also completed 1,000 runs in World Test Championships (WTC). He is the 55th batter to achieve this feat in the WTC.
However, the Tamil Nadu off-spinner, who turned 38 only a couple of days back, is only the second cricketer in the world to score 1,000 runs and also take 100 wickets in the WTC. The other cricketer to achieve this was his partner batting at the other end – Ravindra Jadeja.
So Ashwin has 1,000-plus runs and 174 wickets in the WTC and Jadeja has 1,600-plus runs and 102 wickets in the WTC matches. Earlier this year, Ashwin has become just the 2nd Indian cricketer to claim 500 wickets in Test matches and now has 516 wickets in 100 Tests before this match.
