Sky TV down: Hundreds of Sky Stream & Glass customers report outages as ‘technical issue’ leaves them offline
HUNDREDS of Sky Stream and Glass customers are facing technical difficulties with reports of outages across the network.
The Sky Help team confirmed on X, formerly Twitter that users are experiencing tech issues when trying to turn on their TV.
Around 328 people have reported the outages as of 7.50pm, according to the website Downdetector.
The Sky Help team is currently working on a fix to resolve the issue, they added.
The social media post from Sky read: “Some Sky Glass/Stream customers are currently experiencing technical issues when trying to switch on their devices.
“Our technical teams are working hard to fix this.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
There has been no explanation for how the issue began, but Stream and Glass users on social media have reported that the fault is still ongoing.
Frustrated customers have taken to X to voice their complaints about Sky’s outage.
One user wrote: “Can’t turn my TV on because of a national outage with Sky Glass.
“Bet we won’t get any money knocked off our bill.”
“Still can’t turn TV on,” commented another.
“Not even to watch Netflix. Surely this is a breach of contract and I can return my Sky Glass?
“I didn’t sign up for this.”
While a third added: “Just note if you are thinking about getting Sky Glass, the system has been down since 4pm.
“It’s now 8.25pm with very little communication with their paying customers and no timeframe when the issue will be resolved.”
It’s been almost all day

One user asked the Sky Help Team when he could expect the issue to be resolved.
However, the team replied: “I’m sorry, I’m unable to provide a timescale for this to be resolved however the team are on the case to get you back up and running with the highest priority.”
Another customer asked the team whether users would get compensated.
They said: “I’m assuming we won’t be compensated by a bill deduction for this…it’s been almost all day.
“Spent nearly an hour on hold to have the staff member I spoke to be utterly clueless as to what I was talking about. I ended up telling her!!!”
The Sky Help Team responded: “We have no further information at the moment however, once resolved & if compensation is due we’ll reach out to affected customers.”
It comes after Sky subscribers were warned that the broadcaster’s popular streaming app would stop working.
Sky Go is the company’s platform for on-demand and live streaming of channels.
Customers can access it as part of their package on several gadgets including iPhone, Android, iPad, PlayStation, Xbox and more.
But as is quite standard with technology, older versions eventually lose support, which is exactly what is about to happen for the iPhone system iOS.
Fortunately, this does mean the vast majority of people should be unaffected.
Sky alerted users about the move last month, saying: “To ensure we provide the best possible experience to Sky Go customers, from time to time, we stop supporting older operating system versions.”
The version that is being dropped is iOS 12.
Why get rid of the app?
Analysis by Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Reporter
Developing apps – and crucially, maintaining them – takes time, effort and money.
Data by Statista from February suggests that only 1.3 per cent of Apple devices still run iOS 12.
And that’s globally – so it’s safe to assume an even smaller percentage are probably still using Sky Go on iOS 12.
So, it makes sense for Sky to give up on that version of the app.
The company has supported the app for much longer than others considering iOS 12 is five years old now.
iOS 12 was released back in 2018 – and to put it into context, the current version is iOS 17, though a free upgrade, iOS 18, is coming tomorrow.
Sky recommends that users upgrade to iOS 13 at least to continue using Sky Go.
Sky’s not the only company to be changing support recently.
Netflix has just announced that it will no longer support a much newer version of iOS in comparison, iOS 16.
iOS 16 was released in 2022 – and devices that can’t upgrade to the next available version are the iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPad Pro (first generation) and iPad 5.
However, Netflix has said the app will continue to work for the time being, it just won’t receive any new features or fixes.
