Look Inside Michael Jordan's Just-Sold $15M Mansion
Michael Jordan's name has transcended the world of basketball and become synonymous with success. Naturally, the Chicago Bulls star enjoyed the fruits of his labor by building a massive mansion outside the Windy City truly fit for a king. Now, the iconic home has been sold, marking the end of an era for both Jordan and the home.
According to The Athletic, Jordan's 56,000-square-foot property went under contract on Sept. 15 after spending 12 years on the market. He first acquired the seven-acre property in 1991 and built the house in 1995. The final sale price hasn't been made public, but the home was last listed in 2015 for $14,855,000. That number was a significant drop from the original 2012 asking price of $29,000,000.
The amenities are nothing to sneeze at. Dubbed by the Zillow listing as "a physical monument to his tireless dedication and hard work," the property features a regulation-sized basketball gym, circular infinity pool, putting green, tennis court, and cigar room. In total, the home has nine bedrooms and 19 bathrooms, 15 of which are full-sized, and a 14-car garage. During Chicago's cold winters, you can warm up using one of five fireplaces throughout the house.
The home, and specifically the massive gate featuring the number "23" out front, has become a tourist attraction in the neighborhood over the years.
"We've seen some interesting things," neighbor Howard Serlin told ABC 7 Chicago. "People coming up in wedding dresses and people bringing basketballs and standing in front of the gate."
The fate of the property—as well as the buyer and the final sale price—remain to be seen. "Now I take the opportunity to take pictures because I'm telling my wife and friend that in time this house would be sold to a different person, and they take down the number," resident Jesson Chabit said.
Jordan's Chicago home might soon be a distant memory, but his legendary years with the Bulls will live on in history forever.
