Luisangel Acuña Homers Again for Mets
The latest New York Mets prospect to make it to the majors continued his torrid start on Wednesday night.
In a 10-0 drubbing of the Washington Nationals, Luisangel Acuña went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. He slugged his second home run of the season and made it two consecutive games with a home run.
After Wednesday, the 22-year-old is 7-for-15 with two home runs, a double, and four runs batted in. His batting average and on-base percentage sit at .467, while his slugging percentage sits at .933.

After the victory, manager Carlos Mendoza spoke about the young prospect and his impact on the roster already.
“It’s one game, but it’s good to see it. We know the talent and the tools are there. But I think the one thing is just where we are. The meaning of every game, every pitch, every play is important. The way he is handling it, there are some really good signs there. We have a good player here, and the tools are there. We like what we are seeing.”
Additionally, Mendoza mentioned how Acuña keeps telling him that he can “see the ball so much better” in the big leagues compared to the minor leagues.
Whether through the eye test, counting stats, or the underlying metrics, Acuña is off to a great start in the major leagues. He has immediately helped the Mets mitigate the loss of Francisco Lindor and given them a boost on offense and defense.
While it is unlikely that he will keep up this current pace, the prospect has shown he can handle himself at the game’s highest level. At the very least, Acuña looks to be an important contributor to the Mets’ playoff push. At his highest level of play, though, the rookie looks to be a player who can help fill out an already impressive Mets lineup.
