MLB news roundup

Good morning A’s fans!

Yesterday saw the club finish off the Chicago Cubs in the finale to claim the series and finish the road trip on a high note. There was a ton of highlights from this road trip but the biggest had to have been the record-setting performance from yesterday’s win, courtesy of star closer Mason Miller:

That 27th save put our star closer into uncharted territory for the club. He is now the sole possessor of the franchise rookie saves leaders after securing tonight’s win, surpassing former great A’s closers (and Rookie of the Year winners) Andrew Bailey (26 saves in 2009) and Huston Street (23 in ‘05):

He won’t take Rookie of the Year honors here in 2024 (looking at you, Luis Gil), but heck, a record is a record, right?

And there is still so much more to come from Miller! Not only could he expand on this record with the final few games to go, but it’s easy to forget that he’s a former starting pitcher and an arm that the club has not yet ruled out returning to a starting pitching role. Would the club dare tempt fate and remove him from a role he has become utterly dominant in? Recent history reminds us of another flame thrower turned closer in Aroldis Chapman, He’s still around, and has been involved in some of the biggest moment in baseball history., That wouldn't be a horrible fate for Miller if a starting rotation job doesn’t occur.

But maybe here from the rookie closer for yourself:

Have a wonderful Thursday A’s fans!
