IPL 2025 Retention Day LIVE Streaming and TV details: 10 franchises set to announce full list of retained players ahead of mega auction
The D-Day for all 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises is here. The IPL 2025 Retention Day is on Thursday (October 31) at 5pm IST. The day coincides with Diwali, which will be celebrates all across India.
But all eyes will be on the 10 teams, who will announced their full list of retained players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to take place next month. The teams can retain a maximum of 5 players along with an option to have a ‘Right to Match’ card for the mega auction.
If a team retains it’s full-quota of 5 players, then a total of Rs 79 crore will be deducted from the team’s overall purse of Rs 120 crore. The division is in the following manner…
Capped player 1 – Rs 18 crore
Capped player 2 – Rs 14 crore
Capped player 3 – Rs 11 crore
Capped player 4 – Rs 18 crore
Capped player 5 – Rs 14 crore
Each uncapped player – Rs 4 crore
However, if ‘capped’ player 2 gets paid Rs 17 crore by his team in order to retain him. In such a case, the franchise will see Rs 17 crore cut from their purse, which is an additional Rs 3 crore above his bracketed value.
On the other hand, if a franchise decides to play capped player 2 for Rs 12 crores – under his actual value – they would have Rs 14 crores cut from their auction purse. So if a franchise decides to retain 2 uncapped players, like IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans are likely to do, the Rs 51 crore will deducted from their auction purse.
Any cricketer who is yet to debut for his national team, irrespective of the format, will come under the ‘uncapped player’ category. Furthermore, for Indian players, a capped player will be deemed uncapped if he hasn’t been a part of the starting XI in an international match (T20Is, Tests or ODIs) in the last five years or does not have a central contract with BCCI.
With the return of this regulation, former India captain MS Dhoni can return as an ‘uncapped’ player since her has not played for India since 2019. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player can as a result be retained as an ‘uncapped’ player for Rs 4 crore.
