Austin Capobianco wasn’t the only Yankees fan who acted out of line Tuesday night in the Bronx.
A few hours after Capobianco was ejected for interfering with Mookie Betts in Game 4 of the World Series, another Bronx Bombers supporter became the subject of internet focus for unsightly behavior. The fan took aim at Freddie Freeman during the contest’s powerful “Stand Up to Cancer” tribute, which saw all players, coaches and fans at Yankee Stadium honor loved ones who died from or are battling cancer.
The chirp was in poor taste in general, as that moment of the evening was much bigger than the game. But it was particularly abhorrent to go after Freeman, whose mother died of melanoma when he was 10 years old. FOX cameras captured the star first baseman holding up a sign honoring his mom during the “Stand Up to Cancer” segment.
Even if Freeman didn’t hear the dig, he will have an opportunity to stick it to New York Yankees fans Wednesday night. The Los Angeles Dodgers can clinch the Fall Classic with a triumph in Game 5, where Freeman will try to extend his World Series home run streak to seven games.
