Homeowner reacts to wildfires in Logan County
KINGFISHER, Okla. (KFOR) — More wildfires engulfed parts of the state as dry and windy conditions made it easy for a spark to spread.
One family is thankful to be okay after a wildfire in Kingfisher on Tuesday burned some of their land and also came close to their home.
"My husband got here first and called me when I was still at work, so I was just kind of wondering, like, how bad it was going to be," said Jordan Salcedo, whose home was close to wildfire.
It was another day with all hands on deck for fire crews as parts of Oklahoma were once again set ablaze by wildfires.
"Like, I just hope that they can get it under control and keep it from spreading," Salcedo said.
Salcedo feared the worst when she got the phone call from her husband.
"Hearing that our land was on fire, it was like, pretty scary moment, said Salcedo.
Thankfully, the fire near her home was contained in a couple hours, but further east in Logan County, others weren't so lucky.
Multiple houses, a barn and even a fire truck were caught in the path of the fire, burning thousands of acres along with it.
"The wind is just terrible," Salcedo said.
With the fire still growing and spreading as the sun set, worry grew that more homes could be destroyed.
Currently fire crews have confirmed four houses have burned down in Logan County.
They also say the biggest challenge Tuesday, has been having enough water to fight the flames. Water stations were set up in specific areas for crews to come back and fill up when needed.
"They're doing so good, staying on top of it," Salcedo said. "They all pull together, all the fire departments. They do a great job."
With dry windy conditions and high fire danger expected to continue until Oklahoma can get some rain, residents like Salcedo want to get the message out to others, be mindful.
"I just wish people put more thought into not throwing out cigarettes and chains dragging from trailers just when it's windy like this," Salcedo said. "You just have to be, like, completely careful. You know what I mean? I wish people were more considerate and don't take that chance at all."
Crews are monitoring fires in Logan County throughout the night.
