The Bihar prodigy, who became the youngest-ever cricketer to be bought at an IPL auction when the Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 1.1 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction last month, went on to hammer his second successive fifty of the Asia Cup – off just 24 balls on Friday.
He was finally dismissed for 67 off just 36 balls with five huge sixes and six fours. But by that time India Under-19 team had already raced to 132 for 2 in just 13.4 over at a run-rate of nearly 10 runs an over.
It was Suryavanshi’s second successive fifty in the competition after he scored 76 not out off just 46 balls with six sixes and three fours against United Arab Emirates in a must-win Group A match earlier this week. India went on to win that match by 10 wickets with fellow opener Ayush Mhatre scoring 67 off 51 balls.
The Bihar teenager had started off in the tournament slowly after failing with the bat in the first two matches against Pakistan and Japan. But has simply exploded since the tournament went along. Against Sri Lanka too, Suryavanshi and Mhatre got India off to a flyer – scoring 91 runs inside the first nine overs.
Mhatre was dismissed for 34 off 28 balls with 7 fours. India booked their berth in the final with skipper Mohammad Amaan putting finishing touches on the match with an unbeaten 25 off 26 balls as India raced to their target in just 21.4 overs.
Earlier, India restricted Sri Lanka to just 173 with Chetan Sharma claiming 3/34 and Kiran Chormale and Mhatre picking up a couple of wickets each.
