NEW YORK (PIX11) – Nearly 3,000 people in NYCHA housing complexes were without heat and hot water on Friday morning, according to the department's website.
About 2,734 residents across 30 complexes were impacted by unplanned service interruptions by 1 p.m. The outages come amid frigid weather and strong wind gusts in New York City.
Most of the outages were reported at the Stapleton complex in Staten Island and the South Jamaica I and II complexes in Queens. Residents at the Mill Brook complex in the Bronx also reported not having hot water.
Service was restored to the South Jamaica complexes by 1:30 p.m. but NYCHA staff are continuing to work on responding to the other outages.
Temperatures are below average in the city and are expected to reach a high of only 33 degrees. Wind gusts are expected to reach as much as 46 mph in some areas. Temperatures are expected to dip to 28 degrees overnight.
PIX11 News reached out to NYCHA for comment but did not hear back at the time of publication.
To report heat or hot water issues in your apartment, you can contact a NYCHA representative through the Customer Contact Center or call 311.
