The body of an unidentified dead male was found in the wheel well of an airplane at Kahului Airport in Maui on Christmas Eve.
“In a statement, United Airlines confirmed a body was found Tuesday after flight 202, a Boeing 787-10, arrived in Kahului from Chicago,” HawaiiNewsNow reported.
“The wheel well was only accessible from outside of the aircraft. At this time, it is not clear how or when the person accessed the wheel well,” United Airlines said in a statement, according to HawaiiNewsNow.
“United is working with law enforcement authorities on the investigation,” the statement said.
“The Maui Police Department is currently conducting an active investigation regarding a deceased individual discovered on an incoming flight from the mainland this afternoon,” officials said in a statement Wednesday, according to ABC News.
Earlier Tuesday, nearly 1,000 flights were delayed after American Airlines reported a technical issue.
