Meet the Boro chairman who was knighted 90 years ago after he tried to throw a match

ON New Year’s Day 1935, The Northern Echo’s front page told how Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Gibson Poole, of Middlesbrough had been honoured with a knighthood for his service to Teesside which included donating his mansion to be used as a sanatorium.
