Over 890 cases and 24 deaths from Gas Poisonings in Afghanistan this winter

The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health has reported 894 cases of gas poisoning and 24 related deaths across the country since the beginning of the winter season.

On Saturday, January 11, the ministry issued a statement noting a rise in gas poisoning cases nationwide.

Sharafat Zaman, the spokesperson for the ministry, stated that these figures were compiled from reports of citizens seeking medical treatment in hospitals.

He further revealed that 24 individuals have died as a result of gas poisoning, including 15 men and 9 women.

The ministry has urged citizens to exercise caution while using gas heaters, emphasizing the importance of safety measures to prevent further incidents.

During the winter season, the lack of sufficient electricity and heating facilities forces citizens to rely on gas heaters, leading to an increase in gas poisoning cases.

This alarming trend highlights the need for better infrastructure and access to safe heating options to protect public health during harsh winters.

The government and international organizations should collaborate to address these issues by providing alternative energy sources and raising awareness about safety practices to reduce such incidents in the future.
