Portland Winter Light Festival releases more details on event's 10th anniversary

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Downtown Portland is less than a month away from becoming an illuminated art gallery, with the theme “A Light For Tomorrow: A Technicolor Future.”

The Portland Winter Light Festival runs from Friday, Feb. 7 to Saturday, Feb. 15. The event from local nonprofit Willamette Light Brigade annually brings light-based art installations to the central city — and 2025 marks its 10th anniversary.

Executive director Alisha Sullivan said organizers are “pulling out all the stops” for their biggest event yet.

“There will be surprises around every corner!” Sullivan added in a statement. “Now in our 10th year, we know that temporarily transforming our city with light and art is a powerful tool for cultural and economic stimulation and for creating positive, family-friendly experiences in Portland.”

The free festival will showcase more than 150 artworks, live performances and interactive experiences for attendees. An illuminated silent disco, “Glow Bar” with seasonal cocktails and large sculptures from international artists are among the highlights of the event.

Organizers will offer an interactive map that helps guests find the different installations. According to festival leaders, some installations and activities will be scheduled at various locations across the city throughout the spring as well.

Pioneer Courthouse Square will host the event’s opening night ceremony on Feb. 7, featuring fire dancers and other performers.
