SHE’S young, bold, and designing her way into the future!
At just 26, Shalom Tivatyi from is shaking up Zimbabwe’s interior design scene, one statement wall and nature-infused bathroom at a time. Armed with a degree in Industrial Design and over two years of hands-on experience, Harare’s Shalom is setting trends.
In an industry still fighting for full recognition, Tivatyi is leading with purpose, excellence and green dreams. Her standout projects, including a moody, modern bathroom that fuses bold design with biophilic touches, are winning hearts and turning heads.
“I want my work to be beautiful, functional, and good for the environment,” said the eco-conscious creative. “Sustainable materials and smart design are how I give back to the planet.”
But it hasn’t been all glam and glossy finishes. Shalom has had to hustle hard in a market where many still underestimate the power of design. Limited resources? Clients unsure of what they want? She’s faced it all and come out with even more fire in her belly.
“If anything, the struggle made me more inventive,” she said. “I had to teach clients the value of good design and that became part of the journey.”
Beyond her projects, Tivatyi has created a tight-knit design sisterhood, a supportive community of creatives sharing ideas, feedback, and encouragement. Together, they’re pushing boundaries in a field that’s evolving fast.
With her eyes on future innovations like smart home tech and nature-based interiors, Shalom is aiming high. Her dream is snagging global design awards like the Red Dot and inspiring the next wave of Zimbabwean creatives, especially women.
“If even one young person is inspired by my story to follow their dreams without fear, then I’ve done my job.”
Shalom’s message?
Stay curious. Stay passionate. And never forget that great design isn’t just about looks. It’s about creating spaces that feel like home.
Talk about fierce with finesse!
