Gaza facing rapidly deteriorating food crisis, warns WFP
The World Food Programme warns that urgent food needs in Gaza remain critically high, calling for immediate international support to prevent further crisis.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that the window of opportunity to prevent widespread hunger in Gaza is rapidly closing, as food needs remain critically high across the region. The agency voiced grave concern over the deteriorating humanitarian conditions amid ongoing conflict.
In a video message released on Thursday, July 3, the WFP stressed that a large-scale increase in food distribution alone will not be enough to stabilize the situation. The agency called for sustained international action and long-term solutions to address the crisis comprehensively.
The warning comes against the backdrop of intensifying Israeli airstrikes, which have reportedly killed at least 85 Palestinians, including 38 civilians who were seeking humanitarian assistance. The escalation of violence is further complicating aid efforts and endangering civilian lives.
According to a report by the Associated Press, the victims were killed in multiple locations throughout Gaza. Among them, five individuals were struck near a newly established U.S.-backed humanitarian center, raising serious concerns about the safety of aid facilities and those seeking help.
The WFP’s alert highlights not only the urgency of food aid delivery, but also the critical need for protected humanitarian corridors and civilian safety guarantees. Without coordinated efforts and ceasefire arrangements, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is likely to worsen further in the coming days.
