A BOOZY night of beer and romance ended in a cold-blooded killing when a 20-year-old man from Nkayi fatally stabbed his girlfriend’s ex in a jealous rage.
Matabeleland South police have launched a manhunt for Martin Ncube, who allegedly butchered Luckson Mangizi, his girlfriend’s former lover, after a face-off over the woman they both had ties to.
According to provincial police spokesperson Inspector Chiratidzo Dube both men had visited Macoomber 14 Mine Compound on 10 July, unknowingly setting the stage for a deadly love triangle clash.
“Ncube had gone to his girlfriend’s shack to drink with her cousins. Mangizi later arrived and drank alone. Around 8PM, he approached Ncube and confronted him over the girl they both had a history with,” said Insp Dube.
An argument exploded into violence. Witnesses say Ncube whipped out a sjambok and a Columbia knife, forcing Mangizi to flee into the darkness.
“Ncube chased Mangizi down a footpath leading to the bushes. Moments later, he returned holding a bloodstained knife, calmly tucked it into his pocket and vanished into the night,” Insp Dube revealed.
The following morning, a passerby stumbled upon Mangizi’s lifeless body along the same path, sparking a police investigation.
Mangizi’s body was ferried to Filabusi District Hospital, and the manhunt for Ncube is now underway.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact Sergeant Mbizo at 0777 248 757 / 0714 100 448 or report to the nearest police station.
“We urge members of the public to resolve conflicts peacefully. Resorting to violence often leads to tragic consequences,” warned Insp Dube.
