ZIMBABWE’S Sean Williams has moved one place up on the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) men’s Test batting rankings.
The ever-reliable Williams who was the Chevrons’ leading run getter in last week’s two-match Test series against South Africa is now on number 13, a career best ranking, moving up from 14th.
Williams has a rating of 725 points.
In his recent outing against the Proteas, the 38 year old scored 257 runs at an impressive average of 85.66. He brought up his sixth Test century in the first match, scoring 137 runs off 165 deliveries, joining an elite list of Zimbabwean cricketers.
He now has the joint second most Test centuries for Zimbabwe tied with Brendan Taylor and Grant Flower, only behind Andy Flower who has 12 red-ball tons.
Interestingly, Zimbabwe has had 10 Test centuries in the last five years and five of those have been scored by the ever-consistent Williams. In that period, he has scored 1 311 runs.
This year alone, he is the second leading Test run scorer in the world with 577 runs at an average of 52.45. He is only behind India’s Shubman Gill with 640.
Craig Ervine moved one place up to position 50 while Brian Bennett moved two places up to number 69.
Ben Curran remains rooted in position 95 with Sikandar dropping one place down to number 99. They are the only Zimbabwean batters on the top 100 list.
England’s Joe Root has reclaimed his spot at the top of the rankings, leapfrogging teammate Harry Brook. Root’s gain comes after a brilliant century in the first innings of the third Test match against India at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Brook dropped to third with New Zealand’s Kane Williamson getting to second place.
