Ex-Voice of America staffer charged with threats to kill Marjorie Taylor Greene
A former employee of Voice of America was indicted by the Department of Justice for alleged threats to kill Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and her staff.
Seth Jason, of Maryland, was arrested Thursday by U.S. Capitol Police and the Anne Arundel Police Department, according to a DOJ statement.
An indictment accused Jason of making threatening calls to Greene's offices in Dalton and Rome between Oct. 11, 2023, and Jan. 21, 2025.
"The U.S. Capitol Police investigation revealed that the phone calls were made from various phone lines connected to studios and control rooms at Voice of America headquarters, where Jason had worked as a longtime employee," the statement said. "In eight calls made over fifteen months, Jason threatened the use of firearms to kill Rep. Greene, her staff, and their families."
Jason was expected to make an initial appearance before a magistrate judge in U.S. District Court on Thursday afternoon. He was charged with influencing a federal official by threatening a family member, influencing a federal official by threat, interstate communications with a threat to kidnap or injure, and anonymous telecommunications harassment.
Threatening officials and family members carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years for each count. Interstate threats carry a maximum sentence of five years, and anonymous telecommunications harassment can result in a two-year sentence.
Voice of America has been a target of mass layoffs by the Trump administration. Last month, 639 employees were terminated as part of a move to dismantle the organization.
