BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man accused of setting NYPD cars on fire in Brooklyn last month has been arrested, sources told PIX11 News.
Police were searching for Jakhi Lodgson-McCray, 21, who allegedly broke into a parking lot near Dekalb Avenue and Central Avenue and set fire to multiple NYPD vehicles, according to the NYPD.
The NYPD had offered a $30,000 reward for information that led to the arrest and conviction of Jakhi Lodgson-McCray. Sources told PIX11 News he was arrested in a negotiated surrender.
Lodgson-McCray is accused of climbing over the parking lot's gate and putting fire starters on windshields, hoods and tires of multiple cars, police said. In total, 11 cars were damaged, officials said.
Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said the suspected arsonist acted alone, and changed his clothes while he ran away from the parking lot. Kenny said the man is also wanted for disguising himself as a student at Columbia University and causing property damage.
