Rescuers in Italy have freed a cave explorer who was injured by falling rocks in the Piedmont region. The 63-year-old man was trapped 40 meters underground in the Abisso Paperino cave system on Sunday. Rescue teams used explosives to widen narrow passages and navigated vertical shafts to reach him. Medical crews treated him in a heated tent while clearing the path to the surface. The man, who suffered a head injury, was successfully brought out on Monday and is in good condition. The cave system, near Ormea in Cuneo province, extends 170 meters underground.
