0

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the actor best known for playing Theo Huxtable in 'The Cosby Show,' died on Sunday.

ABC News reported the 54-year-old drowned off the coast of Costa Rica, with the official cause of death asphyxia, according to police.

Warner leaves behind his mother, Pamela, his wife and daughter. But despite four decades of stardom, the actor chose to keep his family life private.

Warner chose not to publicly share their names.

His social media accounts rarely show his daughter.

About six years ago, Warner shared an Instagram photo of his daughter, with her back turned to the camera.

"I know most parents think their kids are special and wonderful. We are no exception, even though we and our awesome nanny have to press our forefingers and thumbs together and chant "Ommmm...she is perfect and diviiiiiine" to remind ourselves during those times she's being extra aggy! ????," he wrote.

"Thank you for sharing in my joy as a father even though I don't post her face. She has the rest of her life for that life. Right now I just want her to BE...but it doesn't stop me from BEing a proud papa!"

"Goodbye 2020! No matter how badly 2020 affected you, it showed what you're made of. You're here. You survived it, even if only barely. Be good to yourself. Be kind to yourself. Love yourself in the way you deserve to be loved," he wrote at the time."

Last summer, Warner launched a podcast, "Not All Hood," with cohosts Weusi Baraka and Candace Kelley.

At the time, he told People it was a place where he could be his "most vulnerable."

“It's been an interesting experience for me, because it's a place where I feel safe enough to be able to be as vulnerable as I allow myself to be,” he said.

Warner played Theo, the only son and second oldest of the Huxtable family, for all eight seasons of 'The Cosby Show," which premiered when he was just 14 years old.

Following the show's run, he starred in sitcoms Malcolm & Eddie,' and 'Reed Between the Lines. '

He also appeared in guest roles on dozens of television shows over the years.

Warner most recently starred in the Fox medical drama 'The Resident.'
