These Wimbledon Stars Withdrew From Toronto Masters 1000 Tournament Due to Injuries

Jannik Sinner made headlines in 2025 when he won Wimbledon, becoming the first Italian to ever do so.

He took home the glory despite an injured elbow, and he's still nursing that injury, causing him to skip out on the Canadian Open tournament in Toronto.

Tennis giant Novak Djokovic also bowed out of the Canadian Open, part of the nine-tournament ATP Masters 1000 series, due to an injury to his groin.

The Associated Press reported both decided to skip the tournament on July 20, along with Jack Draper, ATP's No. 5 ranked player.

Sinner, ATP's No. 1 ranked player, injured his elbow in a fall at Wimbledon and could be seen clutching and rubbing it while playing against Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

It's been two years since Sinner won his first Masters 1000 title in Toronto.

"Winning that title in Toronto two years ago was the start of a really special moment for me, but after speaking with my team, I have to recover," he said.

Djokovic, with 24 Grand Slam titles to his name, was also dealing with an injury while playing at Wimbledon. He had an injured groin when he lost to Sinner in the semifinals.

Following the loss at Wimbledon, which would have been his eighth title there if he'd won, he told the press his age was to blame, and his body has been feeling markedly worse over the last year and a half.

"It's tough for me to accept that because I feel like when I'm fresh, when I'm fit, I can still play really good tennis and I've proven that this year," he said.

Draper in a post on X announced a not-so-serious injury to his left arm as the reason he'll be missing Toronto and one other Masters 1000 tournament this year.

"After Wimbledon I picked up an injury in my left arm, nothing serious, but I have to make sure it recovers fully for the rest of the season," he said. "Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete in Toronto and Cincinnati…. See you in NYC !"
