Bryan Mbeumo completes Manchester United transfer
Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
He is their second major signing of the summer, following Matheus Cunha.
United’s Director of Football Jason Wilcox praised Mbeumo (via ManUtd.com): “Bryan’s goals and assists record in the Premier League is exceptional, his remarkable consistency has put him amongst the most productive players in England for the last three seasons.
“We are delighted to have secured another one of our primary targets ahead of the pre-season tour.
“The experience in the US will be the perfect opportunity for Bryan to work with Ruben and his new team-mates as we prepare for an exciting season ahead.”
United will be paying an initial fee of £65 million and £6m in bonuses.
Mbeumo will sign a five-year contract with the club having an option to extend his stay by one year.
The Red Devils have been in negotiations with Brentford for over six weeks.
They achieved a breakthrough after submitting a third bid worth £71 million.
United will pay the initial fee in four instalments, allowing them to pursue other transfer targets.
Mbeumo represents an excellent addition for the Red Devils, with the potential to seamlessly slot into Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
He is expected to occupy the right-sided number 10 position with Cunha on the opposite side.
The 25-year-old scored 20 goals and registered eight assists last season.
He is a proven Premier League star who will instantly add firepower to United’s attack.
Tottenham Hotspur made an attempt to sign Mbeumo and reunite him with manager Thomas Frank.
However, the Cameroon international made it clear to both Spurs and Brentford that he only wanted to secure a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
Mbeumo is now expected to travel with the rest of the squad for their pre-season trip to the United States.
The club also revealed that he will wear number 19 shirt at Old Trafford, previously worn by Raphael Varane and Marcus Rashford.
Amorim will be delighted to have both Cunha and Mbeumo at his disposal.
United will now focus on offloading their unwanted stars and boost their transfer kitty.
Adding a new striker and midfielder could be their next priority.
