Ozzy Osbourne dies at 76, just weeks after his farewell show
Singer Ozzy Osbourne has died, the family said in a statement.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time,” the statement notes.
The 76-year-old two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s passing comes only weeks after he performed in t he Back to the Beginning farewell concert in London, featuring a lineup of bands such as Metallica, Guns ‘N Roses, Pantera and scores of others.
Born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England, in 1948, he first rose to fame with Black Sabbath in 1968, pioneering heavy metal rock music and recording hits such as “Paranoid,” “Iron Man” and “War Pigs.” He later embarked on a solo career, his iconic sophomore album hit “Crazy Train” hitting the airwaves in 1980, followed by more than a dozen albums in the decades that followed.

At the peak of his fame, some of his wild exploits included snorting a line of ants off concrete, urinating against the Alamo, and biting the head off a live bat that a fan threw onstage during a 1981 concert. Osbourne later said he thought it was rubber.
In the 2000s, he and his wife Sharon, along with their son Jack and daughter Kelly, found wider fame as stars of “The Osbournes” reality television show, offering fans a chance to see a more domesticated version of rocker.
Osbourne had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019.
