NYC DMVs close early ahead of thunderstorms
NEW YORK (PIX11) --- The Department of Motor Vehicles has closed offices in New York City in anticipation of severe thunderstorms Thursday, the agency announced.
"Due to expected heavy rainfall today, Thursday, July 31, DMV offices will be closed and road tests will be postponed," the New York State DMW posted on X.
The closures also affect Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk counties.
The city is expected to see 1.5 to 3 inches of rain, according to the NWS, prompting a flood watch. Some areas could even see up to 5 inches, specifically on Thursday afternoon and Thursday night.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency for the city and surrounding areas.
"Heavy rain and potential flooding are expected to affect the evening commute. Employers are encouraged to dismiss employees early," Hochul posted on X.
