MILTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A second person has been arrested in connection with an animal cruelty case in Milton, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office. Tina Coughlin, 47, has been charged with 55 counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals.
Coughlin's arrest stemmed from an extensive animal neglect investigation at 185 Paisley Road. 52-year-old Matthew Martone had been arrested in connection with the case on Thursday.
Martone was accused of subjecting 54 golden retrievers and a chihuahua to squalid conditions at his home. During a welfare check on July 7, investigators allegedly found the animals covered in bodily waste and dealing with injuries.
According to Saratoga County Animal Shelter Director Kelly DeVall, the dogs were in some of the worst conditions she had ever seen. The shelter received the 55 total animals at different points.
"We got 11 puppies and then we received 16 adult goldens. Today we received three nursing mothers, 23 one week to two-week-old puppies and two more adult dogs," DeVall told NEWS10's James De La Fuente.
Both Martone and Coughlin were released on appearance tickets pending further proceedings.
