Indian cricketing legend calls the team’s 6-run win at The Oval victory to be ‘Bigger than’…
One of the most thrilling finishes in Test cricket history unfolded by India as they triumphed by six runs over England at The Oval. As England had firmly established a lead in the series, India appeared on the verge of defeat on Day 4, trailing 1-2 in the series. However, in the final session, Prasidh Krishna took two quick wickets and Akash Deep added another, reducing England to 35 runs from victory when rain stopped play. In a stunning turnaround, India clinched a famous win and squared the series on Day 5.
Sunil Gavaskar, former Indian captain, was delighted with the result, calling it a greater victory than the one they achieved in Brisbane in 2021. Despite most senior players missing, Indian team broke through Australia’s fortress Gabba with a three-wicket victory. Sunil Gavaskar said, “This win is bigger than Gabba,”
On Monday, in an absolute thriller at The Oval, inspirational spells from Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna led India to a five-match series draw against England, denouncing the hosts of a series win by winning by six runs while defending 374 runs.
Under Shubman Gill’s leadership, India started a promising era the series 2-2, marking a strong start to a new era. In the first innings, India posted 224 runs—highlighted by Karun Nair’s half-century—while England replied with 247, led by Zak Crawley and Harry Brook with 50s. Siraj and Krishna each took four wickets. India scored 396, powered by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s century, setting a target of 373 for England.
On Day 4, England reached 317/4 following centuries from Joe Root and Brook, but India’s pacers turned the match around. Siraj claimed a brilliant five-wicket haul to seal a famous victory.
In the tense final moments, Gus Atkinson eased the pressure with a massive six off Akash Deep. He then ran two more, reducing the equation to seven runs with Woakes off strike. At that point, England needed just 11 to win.
