Liam Neeson Admits He Still Drops His Terrifying 'Taken' Speech on His Son’s Friends
When you have a very particular set of skills, every once in a while, people need to be reminded. Even if you haven't actually used those skills on a movie set in over 10 years. Following the release of The Naked Gun reboot, star Liam Neeson has made the press rounds while critics and fans offer high praise for his role in the newest addition to the popular series.
Neeson even gave fans a bit of a blast from the past during a recent interview with The New York Times. The popular actor addressed the Taken series, which debuted in 2008, and ultimately went on to define his career.
Liam Neeson Still Has to Pull out the Iconic 'Taken' Speech for His Son
Over the years, it sounds like the "very particular set of skills" speech from Taken may have worn Neeson down a bit, as incredible as it is.
However, as Neeson explained in the interview, he "can't even tell you how many voicemails" his son's friends received with the actor giving his terrifying speech from the movie.
"I was a tiny bit embarrassed," he said. "Don’t get me wrong, I did love the script. But I can’t tell you how many voicemails [of the 'Taken' speech] I’ve recorded for my sons' friends."
On the bright side, there are things far worse than your son loving the speech so much that he's making sure all of his buddies get to hear it whenever they want. Although it's also safe to assume that the number of requests Neeson has received from fans about repeating that beloved moment would be enough to wear anyone down.
Even at 73, Liam Neeson Still Impresses in Action Roles
While the recently released movie, The Naked Gun, is a fair mixture of action and comedy, Neeson continues to prove that age is just a number.
He admitted to The New York Times that he knows the action roles can't continue forever, and also stated that he doesn't want to "insult an audience" by pretending his still 50.
“There comes a point where audiences know, and I don’t want to insult an audience by me pretending I’m 50 years of age. I don’t want to do that,” Neeson said. “I have too much respect for audiences.”
One thing fans did learn with Neeson's newest film is that when it comes to playing action roles, he's still got it.
The Naked Gun boasts an impressive 90 percent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, and has been labeled "certified fresh." Fans have echoed the film's praise for the most part, and the fan score checks in at 77 percent with more than 1,000 ratings.
