Tripadvisor Names Best U.S. Amusement Park and It Isn't Disney's or Universal's
When you think of the best amusement parks in the United States, Disney and Universal parks usually come to mind.
However, a different theme park took the crown in Tripadvisor's Travelers' Choice Awards and it was none other than Dollywood, which is located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and "is the brainchild of singer Dolly Parton."
Dollywood currently sports a 4.3 out of five on Tripadvisor after more than 19,100 reviews. The honor is "awarded to those who receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period," the website reads.
"The park has a downhome feel with singalongs and a museum dedicated to Parton's life, plus high-velocity roller coasters and thrill rides," the travel company says of Dollywood. "Watch artisans showcase glass blowing and pottery skills. Stay at the park’s two resorts for loads of perks."
Disney World's Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios ranked second and fourth on the list, respectively, while Universal's Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida ranked fifth and eighth, respectively.

"Since 1986, visitors from around the world have become well acquainted with the Dollywood name and experience. However, the entertainment park actually traces its roots back to 1961 when Rebel Railroad first opened on the site that, over time, has expanded and grown into Dollywood," the amusement park says on its website.
The park, which boasts more than 50 rides and attractions and features a water park, Dollywood's Splash Country, entertains more than three million people every year.
