Tom Brady's Attempt To Move on From His 2024 Netflix Roast Just Backfired
The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady aired live on Netflix on May 5, 2024, and it’s a night the former NFL star would rather forget.
Anyone signing up for a roast should know that anything in their lives is pretty much fair game, including his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, and their three kids: Jack, 17, whom he shares with Moynahan, and Benjamin, 15, and Vivian, 12, whom he shares with Bündchen.
“I liked when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun,” he said on The Pivot podcast about a week after the broadcast. “I didn’t like the way they affected my kids. It’s the hardest part about —like the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way that it affected actually, the people that I care about the most in the world.”
Obviously, he had some regrets after the fact and wanted to move on, but comedian Jeff Ross isn’t going to let him. He had a few more jokes at Brady’s expense to tell over a year later.
“I didn’t realize you could lose half your sense of humor in a divorce,” he snarked to Page Six. That’s what I would say.”
Ross noted that other celebrities handled the aftermath much differently — Bruce Willis wrote a personal thank you note, Pamela Anderson sent flowers, and Martha Stewart, who performed at the Justin Bieber roast, sent the whole crew bedding. “So that’s my goal. Anything short of that is, ‘eh, OK,'” he added.
The comedian gave the retired athlete a little credit, noting, “Above that, beyond that, the guy deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for taking the hits for three hours so the rest of us can forget our problems.”
From an outsider’s perspective, the Brady roast was considered a huge hit for Netflix and the big winner of the night might have been Nikki Glaser, who saw her career skyrocket after the event.
“The only thing dumber than saying yes to this roast was when you said, ‘Hey babe, you should try jiu-jitsu,’” quipped Glaser in reference to Bündchen’s blossoming relationship with Joaquim Valente after her divorce from Brady.
Glaser told People in December 2024 she would “definitely apologize” to the supermodel if she was “offended” by the joke. “If someone’s offended, they’re offended. I am never someone that’s like, ‘It’s a joke. Get over it.’ I will apologize for the jokes I make, because I don’t always get it right,” Glaser said. “And I try to punch up, not punch down, and just say what everyone’s thinking without really ruining anyone’s life or reputation.”
For Brady, the best option was probably to decline the Netflix roast invite in the first place.
